Housefull 3 Movie: Yayy or Nayy?

A Potpourri of Vestiges Feature

Directed by Sajid & Farhad, Housefull 3 is the third instalment in the Houseful movie series starring Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandes, Lisay Ray and Nargis Fakhri. The plot of Housefull 3 movie is quite predictable and simple: A rich Gujju businessman in London, Batuk Patel (Boman Irani), doesn't want to marry off his three daughters because of the curse of broken marriages running in his extended family. All hell breaks loose when he learns that all the three sanskari girls – Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati – have a boyfriend each. A car racer called Teddy (Riteish Deshmukh), a rapper called Bunty (Abhishek Bachchan) and a footballer called Sandy (Akshay Kumar). However, the girls are unaware that all the three men actually desire their wealth.

The boys somehow make their way into the girls’ mansion by playing blind, mute and crippled. However, their disabilities get interchanged- the blind has to play mute, mute becomes crippled, and the one playing crippled has to turn blind. All for the sake of the don Urja Nagare (Jackie Shroff) to whom Batuk owes a royal sum of 500 crores.

While critics may argue that this may be the worst in the Housefull movie series, let’s face it: it works with the fans of Housefull, and even for those who like no-brainer comedy movies with masala and entertainment value.

Here are some things that work for the movie:

1. The star cast: The Akshay-Abhishek-Riteish combination was the biggest pull. Abhishek was the newest addition to the male star cast of this series, but he pulled off comedy surprisingly well. Boman Irani and Chunky Pandey as Aakhri Pasta, of course, were the show stealers.

2. The confusion: The twists and turns, the confusion between the characters have always been the highlight of every Housefull movie. If you’ve already seen this movie, watch Housefull 3 full movie online to revisit the funny moments.

3. Akshay’s split personality: Akshay Kumar’s evil personality ‘Sundi’ that surfaces each time he hears an anti-Indian/racial joke was quite a surprise and delight to watch. It added to his character.

What didn’t work for the movie:

1. Jokes on race, disability: Watch Housefull 3 and you’ll spot a barrage of jokes on black people, jokes on disabilities, etc. which is quite a big downer.

2. The dumbness of female leads: While we wouldn’t expect high quality jokes from Housefull franchise anyway, the gags from the female leads of the movie dropped to another low altogether. They came across as dumb blondes, who, though raised in London, had American accents for some strange reason. Since the girls were raised abroad, it is shown that their Hindi was quite weak, and hence they translate every Hindi phrase literally into English. For example, “Kaamwaligai to kaamwali gai” or let bygones be bygones and “Hum bachchenahibanarahehain” or “We are not kidding.”

All in all, the brand of humour aligns with previous Housefull films, with a few funny gags but mostly stupid ones. Watch Housefull 3 full movie online or on Idea movies & TV, and let us what ratings will you give this movie.
