Netflix has renewed the critically-acclaimed coming-of-age comedy series Never Have I Ever for a second season. The series deals with the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan will reprise her lead role as high school student Devi Vishwakumar—an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations.

Created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, the comedy series is loosely based on Kaling's real childhood story while growing up in the Boston area. Never Have I Ever which premiered on Netflix earlier this year in April is essentially about an Indian American high school student dealing with the death of her father. The series has been praised for breaking Asian stereotypes and described as a watershed moment for South Asian representation in Hollywood.

Never Have I Ever is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with 3 Arts Entertainment, Original Langster, and Kaling International. Fisher serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. 3 Arts Entertainment's Howard Klein and David Miner serve as executive producers on the project. In addition to Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, the returning cast includes Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Jaren Lewison, Darren Barnet, Lee Rodriguez and Ramona Young. The first season of the series is currently streaming globally on Netflix.
