Rock On 2, directed by Shujaat Saudagar, is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2008 musical drama film Rock On!! Produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment and distributed by Eros International, Rock On 2 stars Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai (each of whom reprise their respective parts from Rock On!!), Shraddha Kapoor, and Shashank Arora in the pivotal roles. The film’s music is by Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
The action in Rock On 2 picks up five years after the events of Rock On!! Although, Aditya, Joe and KD have remained friends, their band ‘Magik’ has gone into a state of hibernation. While Aditya has left Mumbai and has got settled in Shillong, Joe has become a successful celebrity judge of a leading reality show. KD, on the other hand, too has moved on with his life and is busy with his own musical endeavors. But, old feelings reignite when the friends unite in Shillong to celebrate Aditya’s birthday. What ensues is an emotional journey that takes them on a road to self-discovery.

Rock On 2 is about human emotions, soulful music and memorable characters. It is also about living the life on one’s own terms and conditions. The film underscores the power of music. How music can liberate people. How it can bring people together. The film reminds us that music has the cathartic power to cleanse the soul of all evil. That it can also be a great healer. While the USP of Rock On 2 is Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s music, another important aspect of the film that deserves special mention its visual brilliance. Credit goes to the Belgian cinematographer Marc Koninckx for bringing the lyrical beauty of Shillong to life. While the acting is solid all around, it is Purab Kohli who steals the show with his ebullient performance. Speaking of performances, this is Shraddha Kapoor’s most mature performance till date and may very well prove to be a defining moment in her career.

Overall, Rock On 2 is a highly entertaining film with a lot of heart. Just like Rock On!!, Rock On 2 is a film for every generation. The songs are soulful and the singing of Farhan and Shraddha is a major the highlight of the film. One is reminded of the golden days of Hindi cinema wherein the actors often used to sing their own songs. Watch out for the end credit scene with 'Woh Jahan' changing into ‘Rock On 2’ Title Track. Rock On 2 does great PR for Meghalaya’s tourism. It’s really heartening to see a mainstream Bollywood film putting spotlight on North East India. Rock On 2 is an uplifting film with soulful music and memorable performances that has something for everyone. It is a must watch for movie buffs and music enthusiasts.
