BRICS Film Festival starts tomorrow with the screening of Kunal Kapoor's Veeram

Sep 1, 2016, New Delhi: The grand opening ceremony of the much awaited first BRICS Film Festival will be held today at the Siri Fort Auditorium. A step towards strengthening bilateral relationship between the 5 nations, this cultural extravaganza will be attended by various dignitaries, members of states, jury and celebrities.

Building Responsive, Inclusive & Collective Solutions or BRICS is a merger of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, where these 5 nations have come together to enhance bilateral and friendly relations. In the BRICS Summit 2015 held in Russia, Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi introduced the BRICS Film Festival, an addition to the yearly summits that would connect masses through the exchange of culture and art. Taking the idea forward, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Directorate of Film Festivals have organized the first ever BRICS Film Festival. A 5 day cultural gala (2-6th September), this event will showcase art, diversity, cuisines and films of the member countries. One can explore exclusive cuisines from all the BRICS nations at the Food Court, arranged in the festival venue. A Craft Fair is also being organized at the Sirifort auditorium complex with all member countries putting up stalls with souvenirs and other properties for sale.

Starting on September 2, the opening ceremony will be adorned by performances from cultural troupes of the 5 member nations, reflecting the rich art forms and dances. The audience will witness the opening ceremony starting with the lighting of lamp by the respected personalities present, followed by performances by Beleza Pura from Brazil, Theatre Leningrad Centre Dreams of Russia and felicitation of veteran actor Shri Rishi Kapoor for the contribution of his father, late Shree Raj Kapoor, in Indo-Russian Relations. The gala will continue to woo the audience through extravagant performances by Chengdu Performing Arts Theatre of China, MBZ Music Production of South Africa and cultural showcase by a group from Centre for Indian Classical Dances, founded by world renowned classical dancer Dr. Sonal Mansingh.

One of the main attractions of this glorious evening would be the world premiere of magnum opus period film ‘Veeram’, a creation of well-known director Shree Jayaraj, based on Shakespeare’s novel ‘Macbeth’. The cast and crew of the movie, Mr. Jayaraj (Director), Mr. Kunal Kapoor (Actor), Ms. Divinaa Thackur (Actress) and Mr. Chandramohan D Pillai (Producer) will be present at the event and will be felicitated by HMoS, MEA and HMoS, I&B. With a brief introduction of the film delivered by the cast and crew, the screening of Veeram will begin.
