Following the creation of last year’s TIFF poster, which brought together renowned graphic designer Oshima Idea with a film director for the first time, this year’s poster is a collaboration between Oshima and acclaimed director O Mipo, who is recognized for films vividly portraying the human condition, such as The Light Shines Only There (2014), Living in Two Worlds (2024) and How Dare You? (2025).
The young lead from the latter film is the star of our poster, Shimada Tetta, and the photo was taken by How Dare You? cinematographer Tanaka Hajime. The poster typifies this year’s TIFF theme, connecting―cinema connects us to the world beyond. The child in a baggy men’s suit serves as a symbolic bridge connecting children with adults, just as films transcend generations. The lively image conveys the excitement of discovering unknown worlds through the viewing of films.

The world today is marked by profound division, with conflicts intensifying across political, economic, cultural, religious, and gender lines, erecting numerous barriers between people. Yet, in these challenging times, cinema possesses the unique capacity to transcend these barriers.
While news reports present conflict in distant countries as an objective fact, films invite us to imagine human stories behind the headlines. Through cinematic experience, the pain and joy of others become our own, forging a connection between us and the world beyond our borders.
Driven by this belief in the power of cinema, the Tokyo International Film Festival serves as a vital platform of storytelling, bringing together filmmakers, audiences and advocates, and bridging diverse worlds.
Comments from Director O Mipo
We live our lives drawing various boundaries: children and adults, women and men, work and love. But fundamentally, these are things that cannot be clearly separated. The same goes for society and cinema, in which we encounter different languages, cultures, and values, and relate our experiences to others’ pain and joy. While division and conflict never seem to disappear from the world, I believe that this is the time to acknowledge our differences and keep living in hope. Gazing at the screen alone in the dark, we share the same light; slowly but surely, we can change our future by accumulating these experiences. Carry your dreams on the wings of film. We created a poster design for the 39th TIFF with this hope.
Over the years, TIFF has screened exceptional films from around the world as one of the leading international film festivals, bringing joy to film enthusiasts and providing a platform for exchange with filmmakers. With the aim of ensuring the festival’s sustainability at a time when operational costs are sharply rising, we have decided that it is necessary to set new ticket prices from this year.
The ticket price adjustment is not just a blanket increase, however. It also includes a discount for student tickets―which will be lowered to 1,100 yen for pre-sale tickets and 700 yen for same-day tickets, with the exception of certain screenings―which we hope will encourage young audiences to enjoy cinema by connecting with the film festival.

39th TIFF Crowdfunding Starts September 11
TIFF’s crowdfunding program*, which has broken funding records year by year and recorded a total of 25.46 million yen in 2025, will launch on September 11 at noon on crowdfunding platform Makuake. It runs through October 9 at 10:00 PM. Supporters will receive various special rewards, including admission to TIFF’s flagship Opening Red Carpet on October 26, which is being upgraded for the first time since moving to Hibiya, with the aim of enhancing opportunities for supporters to interact with Red Carpet guests.
