Death Road - An Anti-Smoking Short Film

A Potpourri of Vestiges Review

Death Road, Directed by Nikhil Raman and Murtaza Ali Khan, Produced by Ed Wood Productions

Death Road is my first attempt at filmmaking. I co-wrote and co-directed with my friend Nikhil Raman. The film is edited by Danny Kurian. Death Road‬ is essentially an anti-smoking short film released on the occasion of ‪‎World No Tobacco Day‬.

The entire film of 5-minute duration is shot using a single continuous tracking shot captured through a handheld camera at a live location around Delhi University North Campus while battling with rain, crowd and monkeys in keeping up with the spirit of cinematic realism.

An exclusive click from the shooting of Death Road
Death Road is a serious attempt to highlight the ill-effects of smoking in a rather non-serious manner.

The short film is a tribute to Charles Chaplin, Orson Welles Akira Kurosawa, Dev Anand, Guru Dutt, Kishore Kumar, Max Ophüls, Stanley Kubrick, among other luminaries of cinema.

  1. Hiya, remember me? The email subscription brought me here.
Well done! A way to combat smoking, and an interesting short film it is. And yes, I did notice that it is all done in a single take. Reminded me of the long takes of Gravity (2013). Well planned!
I never smoke and I detest smoking due to it's ability to reduce my lifespan. Therefore, A question I have to ask: Does the actor really have to smoke for real just to put in on film?

I feel technique and style should be dictated by the story line.
