A Still from the first international trailer of Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven
Sony Pictures have launched the first international trailer of Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven remake starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Peter Sarsgaard.

Now I am not really sure if there were a need to remake John Sturges' 1960 classic The Magnificent Seven‬, inspired by the Japanese master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, but I don't want to complain, for Westerns are a rarity these days and every single one that gets made today should be welcomed with open arms.

Language: English
Release date: 23-Sep-16
Genre: Action, Western
Director: Antoine Fuqua
Cast: Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard

Summary: In Antoine Fuqua's modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven, the town of Rose Creek finds itself under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard) as the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier).  As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.

The action-packed teaser trailer bears a strong influence of Quentin Tarantino's Westerns, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight. Don't believe me? Well, watch it for yourself!

  1. Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954) is one of the films that holds a high position on my watchlist, I am still awaiting my chance, time and mood to behold one of the greatest films in Cinema (I have seen part of it in legal footage). It's alright to remake a film, as it introduces a wider audience to the original old film. I only wish that people would stop criticizing all this stuff and let these films introduce the old films to a wider audience instead.

  2. Looks promising... But I wish the movie production houses also released the original simultaneously on the big screen. No matter what The classics are classics for a reason!

  4. There are so many greats I'd love to see again, or for the first time, where they were made to be seen.
