In Bharat, Salman Khan's journey parallels that of independent India in the film. Today India may be 71 years young but Salman Khan's character is now a 71 year old man but he promises that his life has been more colorful than anyone could ever imagine looking at his grey beard. Bharat is a remake of the Korean film Ode to My Father. Atul Agnihotri saw that film at a film festival and decided to remake it with Salman Khan in the lead role. Ali Abbas Zafar came on board to make his third collaboration with Khan.

The film is an emotional ride which is likely to remind some of Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Zafar directs Salman like only he can. And Salman, to his credit, doesn't disappoint, often pushing himself further than what he has ever done in his acting career. The film suffers from pacing issues. Parts of it are very slow but one can give Zafar the benefit of doubt since it's not easy to tell 70 years of journey in a single movie. Overall, Bharat is packed with raw emotions that will certain touch the fans of Salman Khan. For others, it makes for a decent one time watch.

Bharat is produced by Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar. Nikhil Namit is the co-producer. The film also stars Katrina Kaif, Tabu, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Grover, Aasif Sheikh, Sonali Kulkarni, Disha Patani and Nora Fatehi.
